We matched CIDA 1:3

We are the one-third match donors for the Canada International Development Agency’s (CIDA) grant to the Toronto’s Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids).

SickKids, one of the three best pediatric hospitals in the world along with Memphis’ St Jude and London’s Great Ormond Street, is transferring essential and critical knowledge and skills to Ghana, a country in West Africa.  It is collaborating with The Ministry of Health and University of Ghana’s School of Nursing and Health Sciences to design and develop first pediatric nursing curriculum, which is training a core group of 40 nurses who will in turn become nurse educators and build Ghana’s pediatric nursing capacity to care for it’s children in the long-term.  Because Ghana’s child mortality rate is 12 per cent for children under the age of five years and many of these deaths are easily prevented in Canada by trained nurses, this training will have an immediate, sustainable, and significant impact on Ghana’s child health.
